It's the start of the peak of NFL mock draft season, and the Pittsburgh Steelers have many confused on their path. The club clearly wants to upgrade its receiver position, and many mock drafts have them accomplishing that. With Aaron Rodgers' future still up in the air, one interesting wrinkle has arrived in the Steelers projections. They could be a team that reaches for a quarterback in the draft.
Fansided's Cody Williams recently dropped a 3-round mock draft, and it could see Steelers Nation be filled with mixed emotions.
Several of the selections make sense, as they address key needs while delivering solid overall value. Williams also shows that Pittsburgh could be in an uproar with his reach at the quarterback spot. It could lead to an interesting 2026 NFL Draft.
Fansided's mock draft has Pittsburgh Steelers attacking needs and reaching for a QB
Steelers Mock Draft Round 1: Denzel Boston, WR, Washington
With their top pick in this mock draft, Williams has the Steelers going with mock draft favorite Denzel Boston. While he may not be the most athletic receiver in the class, his size allows him to create opportunities. Boston remains the hot name connected to Pittsburgh in most mock drafts, and he remains a clear option for them in the first round if they don't trade up.
Steelers Mock Draft Round 2: Caleb Tiernan, OT, Northwestern
Going with an offensive tackle this early in the draft would be a bold decision and send a clear message to Broderick Jones.
Caleb Tiernan has quality potential, but the Steelers need a left guard to potentially fill a vacancy if Isaac Seumalo leaves in free agency. Unless they imagine Tiernan as a guard, adding a left tackle would be a move that shoves Jones out of the starting lineup.
Steelers Mock Draft Round 3 (Via Cowboys): Garrett Nussmeier, QB, LSU
Here is where Williams got bold in his latest mock draft. He essentially sees the Steelers trade for George Pickens, resulting in the team using that pick on Garrett Nussmeier. The LSU product is coming off a strong week at the Senior Bowl, but taking him at this point is a little rich. Nussmeier has a solid pedigree, but the Steelers would be reaching for another quarterback if they made this pick.

Steelers Mock Draft Round 3: Zakee Wheatley, S, Penn State
With their second third-round choice in the NFL Draft, Pittsburgh selects an in-state prospect. Zakee Wheatley is the perfect embodiment of what the Steelers want at the safety position. It will be interesting to see how dire this need becomes during cap casualty season and free agency.
The Steelers could be in desperation mode to add a safety at the draft, and Wheatley is a good solution.
Steelers Mock Draft Round 3 (Comp Pick): Davison Igbinosun, CB, Ohio State
Rounding out Williams' mock draft, the Steelers go with a cornerback to help fill out their revolving secondary. At Ohio State, Davison Igbinosun has shown consistent improvement and added versatile skills. He mostly plays as an outside corner, but he has lined up in the slot and in the box. Igbinosun should help compete for a starting job on day one, and is solid value at this pick.
